Born in Brooklyn in 1936, Pepitone became an apprentice to sculptor Alfred Van Loen in Greenwich Village at age 20, opened his first studio in the East village, studied in Florence, Italy and has been working in Provincetown for over 40 years.

His greatest achievement to date is “surviving childhood”. Richard’s mother worked as a seamstress and his father was employed by the department of sanitation. From an early age Richard found himself raising himself. He struggled to find where he belonged and then he found the arts.

Richard transcends mediums, he has worked with bronze, lucite, glass, steel, wood and found objects. His recent explorations into mediums include Raku, stained glass, ceramics, graphite on paper, collage and printing press.

Richard moved year-round to Provincetown from California in 1988. Since then he and his work have become fixtures in this tiny town. Pepitone's work has been previously shown at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Provincetown Art Association and Museum as well as countless solo and group shows at galleries, domestic and international.
